If you’ve experienced canyoning before and are ready for a more challenging adventure, Ribeira Funda offers one of Madeira Canyoning’s most spectacular advanced canyoning routes. Known for its impressive vertical drops and technical difficulty, this canyon is perfect for thrill-seekers looking for a truly unforgettable experience.
Our journey begins in a remote, nearly desolate village on the north side of the Madeira Island—getting there is an adventure in itself! After a short warm-up rappel, we quickly reach a dramatic 60-meter waterfall, our first major descent into one of the island’s most breathtaking canyons.
Throughout the route, you’ll conquer:
8 rappels, including the epic 60-meter drop
2 adrenaline-filled jumps of 6 and 8 meters
A final rappel through a waterfall, ending at an old, barely visible road by the sea
As we move through the canyon, the terrain opens up to stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean. The adventure concludes with a short walk back to the road, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Madeira’s northern coast.
This is the ideal canyon for those who want a high-impact experience without spending hours on difficult approaches or exits. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself with big waterfalls or simply enjoy the wild, raw nature of the island, Ribeira Funda delivers.
